About the Oceans Book Club
Canada has the largest coastline of any country in the world, yet just one percent is protected. It's not good enough. As fish stocks collapse and species disappear, Canadian politicians need to rescue Canada's marine health and wealth.
To make informed decisions, they need the books of great ocean writers, scientists and thinkers. CPAWS and WWF-Canada are happy to be their librarians. Every month, we send Canadian politicians a book of consequence.
Who gets our picks?
Prime Minister Stephen Harper
Gail Shea, Canada's Minister of Fisheries and Oceans
Jim Prentice, Canada's Minister of Environment
Michael Ignatieff, Canada's Leader of the Official Opposition
B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell
Barry Penner, B.C. Minister of the Environment
Pat Bell, B.C. Minister of Forests and Range
Carole James, B.C. Leader of the Opposition
What you can do? Please read these ocean conservation books, alongside the politicians. You can find them at most libraries and book shops. Make them part of your book clubs – talk about them. Help us make ocean conservation a must-read, must-do issue.
If you get the chance, question Canadian politicians about these books. Did they read them? What did they think? Will the book help them develop policies to protect Canada's marine ecosystems? Let them know that ocean health concerns you… and that you vote in every election.
Thanks for your help. It makes a real difference.
Happy reading!
